Jejakin is proud to announce that we have been selected as one of the grant recipients of The Low Carbon Development Initiative – Innovation and Technology Fund (LCDI-ITF), managed by The Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH).
This achievement marks an important milestone in Jejakin’s journey to deliver technology-based solutions that support Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target while promoting sustainable development.
Understanding LCDI-ITF
The Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) is part of the Low Carbon Development Initiative (LCDI), a program that promotes low-carbon development as the foundation for Indonesia’s future economic growth.
The program is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and the Government of the United Kingdom through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UK FCDO).
Through LCDI-ITF, innovations and technologies with strong potential to reduce carbon emissions receive support for implementation and further development. Its primary focus is to foster solutions that not only benefit the environment but also generate social and economic value for communities.
Why Is the Agricultural Sector an Important Focus?
When discussing climate change, the energy sector often receives the most attention. However, the agricultural sector also plays a significant role in emission reduction efforts.
One source of greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture comes from continuously flooded rice paddies. These conditions can generate methane (CH₄), a greenhouse gas with a much higher global warming potential than carbon dioxide over the short term.
At the same time, agriculture remains a critical sector for food security and the livelihoods of millions of farmers across Indonesia. Therefore, the solutions developed must balance productivity, resource efficiency, and environmental impact reduction.
Implementing Advanced AWD in West Java
Through the support of LCDI-ITF, Jejakin is implementing Advanced Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in West Java.
AWD is an irrigation management method that allows rice fields to avoid continuous flooding. By managing wet and dry cycles appropriately, this method can help reduce methane formation while improving water-use efficiency.
The implementation is supported by an Integrated Vertical Rotary Nursery & Greenhouse system designed to promote more modern, efficient, and sustainable rice cultivation practices.
By leveraging technology and a data-driven approach, Jejakin aims to introduce an agricultural model that addresses climate challenges without compromising productivity.
Targeted Impacts
Through this project, Jejakin aims to achieve several key outcomes, including:
Collaboration for a Lower-Carbon Future in Indonesia
The trust placed in Jejakin through the LCDI-ITF program motivates us to continue developing decarbonization solutions powered by technology, data, and collaboration.
We believe that climate change challenges cannot be addressed by a single stakeholder alone. Meaningful and sustainable impact requires collaboration among governments, private sector organizations, communities, academics, and society as a whole.
We would like to express our gratitude to BPDLH for its trust and support. We also appreciate all partners, team members, and stakeholders who continue to work alongside us in building a greener and lower-carbon future for Indonesia.
