PLN Icon Plus, together with Jejakin, carried out the planting of 2,500 mangrove trees (Rhizophora mucronata) in Mangunharjo Village, Semarang. This activity is a concrete demonstration of PLN Icon Plus’s commitment to environmental preservation and supports efforts to restore coastal ecosystems that have a direct positive impact on local communities.
This greening initiative is also in line with the sustainability spirit promoted through the Electree program on the PLN Mobile application, which encourages customers to participate in reforestation efforts across Indonesia through every electricity transaction.
“Through this activity, we want to show that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. PLN Icon Plus not only provides digital solutions for customers but also takes an active role in protecting the planet. This collaboration with Jejakin proves that transformation encompasses environmental and social aspects as a whole,” said Chipta Perdana, President Director of PLN Icon Plus.
A total of 2,500 mangrove trees (Rhizophora mucronata) planted along the coast of Semarang are estimated to absorb around 6,175.68 kgCO2e over a lifespan of three years. This amount is equivalent to 7,098.49 kWh of electricity consumption or the weekly electricity use of 141 households. In addition to absorbing emissions, mangroves play a vital role in preventing coastal erosion, improving ecosystem quality, and serving as a habitat for various marine species.
The entire planting and monitoring process was carried out in collaboration with the local community, supported by Jejakin’s digital platform. Through this digital system, each tree will be regularly monitored to ensure its survival rate, growth, and environmental impact. Monitoring data will be presented transparently and measurably to guarantee a real contribution to the environment and local communities.
