Sowing Seeds of Change: Jejakin's COP28 Highlights

Events

Amidst the growing urgency of the global climate crisis, all eyes were focused on Dubai in December for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). Held for two weeks, this crucial event was a focal point for world leaders, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders united in their commitment to addressing environmental challenges facing our world.

Among the participants was Jejakin, represented by our Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Sustainability and Climate Change. Their presence in Dubai showed our dedication to actively engage in the discourse, establish a diverse network, and foster future partnerships with key stakeholders in the environmental sector. Our representatives also seized the opportunity to spotlight key events that echoed our commitment to sustainability and climate action.

Here's a glimpse into the initiatives we highlighted during this conference:

The MoU Signing between Jejakin and Earth Security

This MoU signifies the beginning of a dynamic collaboration between two environmental companies tackling in climate change. Jejakin and Earth Security are joining forces to drive positive change in the global sustainability sector.

We are keen to explore various potential projects with Earth Security to create a tangible and meaningful contribution to securing our planet's future. Stay tuned for more updates on this collaboration!

Otorita IKN Nusantara Launched Nusantara’s Net Zero Strategy 2045

As the most-anticipated development program in Indonesia, Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) officially launched the Roadmap to a Zero Carbon Emission City of Nusantara Regionally and Locally Determined Contribution (RLDC) or Nusantara’s Net Zero Emission Strategy at the ADB COP28 Pavilion in Dubai, UAE (3/12).

Nusantara (Ibu Kota Negara Nusantara), located in East Kalimantan, is the future capital city of Indonesia that is being developed to become a smart, sustainable city.

The document shows the city’s commitment to taking part in global efforts to accelerate climate actions, stating five focus areas to achieve the targets: Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU), Energy, Waste Management, Industrial Processes and Production Use (IPPU), Construction, and Agriculture.

The targets written in the document are:

  • Business-as-Usual;
  • CM1: Master Plan Scenario; aimed at achieving a reduction of 1.1 MtCO2e below Business-as-Usual by 2045, and
  • CM2: Enhanced Scenario; targeting a more substantial 1.6 MtCO2e reduction by 2045.

To achieve said targets, the following strategies are written in the document:

  • FOLU: Nusantara’s forests will be expanded to encompass 65% of the total land area by implementing dedicated conservation, rehabilitation, and forest expansion efforts. Emissions in Nusantara could potentially decrease by approx. 1.7 to 1.9 MtCO2e by 2045.
  • Energy: Nusantara will transition their energy source from mixed fossil fuels and renewables to 100% renewables by 2028. Construction of renewable energy sources will commence by 2024 (50 megawatt solar power plant). By 2040, electric vehicles (EVs) will serve 100% of transport needs in Nusantara.
  • IPPU: Nusantara will implement the latest low-carbon technology in cement production that could reduce 0.5 MtCO2e.
  • Waste management: Nusantara aims to achieve 60% waste reduction by using 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and circular economy approach.
  • Agriculture: Nusantara will be using a comprehensive strategy to ensure food security and sustainable, climate-friendly agricultural practices. This can be done by the utilization of low carbon, environmentally friendly biological fertilizers and pesticides, as well as adoption of advanced horticultural production technology.

The Nusantara Net Zero Strategy aims to create a climate-resilient city, encompassing economic, social, and ecological dimensions. Climate adaptation efforts will pave the way toward fostering a climate-resilient community, able to adapt and thrive in a changing environment.

Indonesian government also invites other key stakeholders in the sector to collaborate and achieve said targets together. To support this development, Jejakin is partnering with Katadata Green by Katadata, BenihBaik, and Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) to implement Green Movement: Sabuk Hijau Nusantara program. This program has a goal of preserving the green belt of Nusantara and also to create community development programs across IKN Nusantara.

Launched in October 2023, this program aims to plant 10,000 trees in the 256 ha area on Kelurahan Pemaluan, Kabupaten Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), Kalimantan Timur. This collaboration invites other parties to be involved by donating in this program via BenihBaik website. All of the planted trees will be monitored by Jejakin’s system and will be reported via our platform.
